Jon's Appointment

We met with Dr. Bin-Jacob today to talk about what's next for Jon now that his chemo is all done. The doc asked Jon what side effects he had had and how long they lasted. Jon told him that he had been somewhat sick to his stomach, tired, and sometimes nauseous but overall he felt fine. He told the doc that he only had to miss a few days of work and he hasn't felt any residual affects of the last treatment. The doc just kept saying "Really?" like it was some miracle. We also talked about getting Jon's port out because it's been pushing up against his skin. The doc asked if he thinks the port pushing out is because Jon has lost weight and we both laughed and said, "No he's gained 30 pounds!" The doc said "Really?" and started looking through Jon's charts. Sure enough Jon had gained 21 pounds from start to finish. The doc furrowed his brow and said, "That's highly unusual Jon, but nothing about you is normal," and then the doc laughed. It's fun to see such a serious doctor laugh. It makes both of us feel so much better about the whole experience.

Jon gets his port taken out next Tuesday, routine procedure done in the doctors office. Then in three months Jon goes in for a physical exam to check his lymph nodes to see if they're swollen. Then three months from that point Jon gets a CT scan. We hope nothing shows up on it.

For now we will just embrace the fact that we have no more chemo appointments and that the doctor is very confident that Jon is cancer free. Our lives can finally find a level of normalcy. :) :) :)

Dr. Bin-Jacobs was right....Jon's whole experience with cancer was one miracle after another. And I am very grateful for each of those miracles! I'm glad it's over, but will miss my visits at your house.
