Whoa Bessie!

Check out Gage's hair! It's super long. It reminds me a lot of a super hip beach bum. Especially since his face is all, "Hey...what up yo." Okay enough of that nonsense. I took Gage to get a haircut today at Cookie Cutters. In the past it's been hit or miss on whether Gage sits quietly and eats his sucker during his hair cut. I knew today was not going to be one of the good days when I drove up to Cookie Cutters and Gage said, "No..OWIE!"

Took Gage inside and he clung to me like super glue. I sat him in the blue airplane and he immediately started crying. There was a couple there with their small child getting his first hair cut. I think Gage freaked the kid out with all of his dramatic crying and screaming. What was supposed to be a ten minute haircut turned into a 30 minute fiasco with Gage trying to climb all over me while the poor gal was cutting his hair. She didn't really get to finish. But she got a good tip ;)

The Little Things

Ah the little things. Life is frustrating, life is hard, but through all that there's the little things that get us through.

Sometimes the small things can be inconveniences but when you look at the big picture, they turn into something really special. Here are some small daily examples of what makes me smile and gets me through the day:

* Gage blowing raspberries on any available skin. Whether it be my arm, tummy, or chest
* Gage wiping his spit into my skin after he blows raspberries...
* Gage coming up to me and giving me a kiss for no reason
* Listening to Gage giggle
* Watching the dogs run for their lives as Gage chases them around the house
* Jon laughing at something so incredibly dumb that it's funny
* Coming home to a clean kitchen
* Watching Gage twirl in circles just because he can
* The sound of peace and quiet while I read a book
* Gage kicking the dogs out of his way(Even though this shouldn't make me smile...)
* Gage pulling me along into his room to play. "Come on mom, lets go!"
* Finding a small little boy in my bed at 2:30 in the morning...
* Gage randomly coming up and asking "What are you doing mom?" or "What's going on?"
* Gage singing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star while I'm trying to get him to go to sleep at night
* Gage hugging me after he's been throwing a tantrum for 20 minutes because in his own way he knows he was being naughty
* The dogs coming up and putting their cute little heads on my lap just to say hi.

There are some days that I really struggle finding something good. But all I need to do is look around and there is always something there. Whether it be the dogs making me laugh, Gage being his usual funny self, or Jon being a dork just to make me laugh.

Wishing For A Fairy Tale

I grew up thinking that my adult life would be much like the adult lives that I saw around me. You go grow up, get married to the person you love, go to work, go home, cook dinner, talk and play with the kids and go to bed.

Rinse lather, repeat.

But my adult life is nothing like how I expected it. I get to do all of the above activities...but no one told me about the worries that came with being an adult. Where's the money going to come from to pay for a new windshield on the car? Will I ever get to buy new work shoes? Why are my physical ailments happening at the young age of 29? Will my husband's cancer come back, and if it does what will we do? Was it having a child, my husband getting cancer, or both combined at the same time the reason that our marriage isn't the way I hoped it would be?

I keep asking myself questions like this....and honestly I'm not getting any answers. I keep telling myself that all of these trials and struggles and heartbreaks...are just God's way of testing us. What happens when we're tested and we fail?

We're very lucky to have a healthy, almost three year old little boy. To love and hug and kiss all the time. He's healthy, he's independent, he's stubborn, and he tests our patience every single day. But he is a great reason to get out of bed every morning and continue chugging along regardless of whatever else we're going through. He's our light when we're having a dark day. That's one of the best things we can hold on to.

I just hope that someday the only worries we'll have are whether we should get pizza or Chinese for dinner. I'll always opt for pizza. ;)

Desperately Needing Sunshine!

It's the first day of March and today looks and feels an awful like the first day of January. It might be a few degrees warmer but its still cold and gloomy. When I picture March I see birds, sunshine, and green grass. So far none of that is showing up. With the two feet of snow at my house it might be another 2 months before I see the grass though. Lets wish for more sunshine at least! I heard on the radio that in the last 52 days there has only been a total of 9 days of good air days around here. That means only 9 days of sun! No wonder I look like I'm turning into a vampire.

Gage is wanting to play outside a lot more too. But its still too cold and there's no where for him to play. Poor kid. He's learning what it feels like to have cabin fever. :)
